Different School's in Buddhism have slightly different ideas on what Buddha meant by Nirvana so I would suggest you do a little research

They do all agree though that the word Nirvana is a state were the fires that cause suffering and dissatisfaction ( Dukkha ) have been extinguished.

I disagree with Stephen Wolinsky.....
