Psalm 46:10 Be Still and know that I AM God

Among my favorite quotes from the Old Testament is this particular verse from Psalms:

"Be Still And Know That I AM God". (Psalm 46:10)

Although I am not Jewish, this is a quote that I reference quite often as, for me at least, it is one of the most important keys to self-realization. By stilling the mind, one gets the little personal, self-limiting, separatist ego self out of the way and allows the pure divine light to shine through.

There is a story about the great Hindu sage Ramana Maharshi in which he was approached by a number of Jewish people seeking enlightenment. He shocked them by asking what they were doing there in India with him since all of Vedanta (the Hindu scriptures) could be summarized in two simple quotes from the Jewish Bible.

The first quote he mentioned was "Be Still and Know that I AM God", and he spoke extensively on that quote from the Psalm.

As for the second quote, I will leave that to your imagination for the time being but I will say that it is NOT the famous quote of Rabbi Hillel nor is it the equally famous but less original quote of Rabbi Akiva when asked to summarize the Jewish Bible concisely.

For some reason, I wanted to share this today.
