the energy we are 'getting' is natural divine energy, which needs no guidance and knows better where it needs to go. but it takes a practitioners faith in themselves, and the energy, surrendering to both and to the divine source.
meanwhile I suggest you use all that you know and can be intuited in your heart to learn to guide and then be guided. in all cases, it is a connection with the divine and it is ultimately beautiful. God bless.

In basic healing techniques, such as Reiki, that is how it works, yes.
But Inanna's technique is more advanced, it is targeted at detecting and removing energetic blockages, which can cause disease, on the physical, mental and spiritual levels. The idea is to use concentrated prana or Kundalini energy to blast away blockages, even Karmic ones, so that the normal flow of energy can be restored.
