G.S. Heron is, for a start? Some say the cat is the Godfather of Hip Hop, and it's like you cats think of maybe Tu Pak or some 'guy' like Kanye (who hasn't earned the right to be called a cat) because you're not finding out the real. You're being sucked in by the commercial giants who write anyone they want into or out of the history of our cultural memory. You think Elvis wrote Hound Dog! That's the difference, cats like me know what Heron's lyrics are talking about. The man is paying tribute to where HE comes from. I know where that is. And I have been to that place, myself.
