There is nothing incompatible between what you write and the quotations of Silver Birch given by the Noble Knight above. After passing over we go to the astral planes, which from my experience are just as described by the OP. We have astral bodies, which are much finer than physical bodies, but we keep our memories and attachments. It is possible at will to change one's form into almost anything, but most creatures prefer to keep their original appearance, at the best point in their physical life. Communication is by thought, not spoken words. Thought manifestation is instant.
There are levels of spiritual development on the astral, and ultimately those who have developed to the highest level of spirituality reach the point where they are able to pass on to even higher spheres. At that stage, the astral body is discarded and we move on to the next plane/dimension (call it what you like). Juanita, at that stage we no longer need the support of any shape or form. You are right. But what KOA is describing is the astral plane.
