You may not see it yet but you had a lucky escape, he is a troubled person and he tries to control you because it makes him feel better, he used to for his own gain, you will meet someone who will treat you well.and then you will realise what a waste of space he really is,all he thinks about is himself.i know the pain you feel i think we all have been there at some point, but it does get easier and you will meet someone who will respect you.
