I don't think Christians escape blame for the problems of the world by pointing fingers at the devil. Many probably do use the devil as an escape clause (ex. "the devil made me do it") but it's made quite clear in the Bible that we need to take responsibility if we listen to the devil.
The most basic example is what happened in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve listened to the devil and disobeyed God, and for that they were punished.
So while I do believe in the existence of Satan, I also think that we need to take responsibility when we choose to follow his ways rather than God's
