It does indeed sound just like a Tiger's Eye in which case it would not be one of the coloured agates that are generally known. Should it be a Tiger's Eye, then this would be placed on the Solar Plexus Chakra in crystal healing. This would help with issues of grounding, practicality, wealth and willpower.
