No exact answer.
BUT, I can offer some decent thoughts on this.
For example, say you were a horse thief or a bank robber for many lives...you just did not learn 'not to do that'.
You went to jail, you got shot. BUT,
when it finally sunk in that you were hurting people, that stealing from them caused pain and hardship to families...well...
WHY would you be born to rob again?
You learned the lesson...in your heart or soul or mind. It can be checked off now!

So the next life you would have other obstacles to learn or to overcome...and they get more psychological regarding people.

Like me, I've learned not to pillage villages probably being a Mongolian marauder at one time.
Now, I have other challenges ...how to be nice to a person I can't stand, for example...a far cry from
killing innocent people with a sword from atop my horse.

We do carry what we have overcome with us, I'd say.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru
