It may be the tail-end of hypnapompic hallucinations (as they are technically called - see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnopompic). The 'inner' eyes tend to open during both hypnagogic and hynopompic states, although this may simply be awareness of the onset of a dream (hypnagogic) and the ending of a dream (hypnopompic). I've had many occasions of being awake, but still watching the last few seconds of a dream. It's a strange sensation, isn't it?
