PERCEPTION

PERCEPTION SEEMS TO PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN OUR LIFE.

The other day I spoke to a person and I made the following claim:

"The most number of push-ups I have every done was 8.
The most number of steps I ever walked was 100.
(Later, I changed that figure to somewhere between 125 to 150 steps.)
The longest I was ever to balance was 10 seconds without falling."

What is your perception of what I just wrote?

I just wonder what the "I" is in what you wrote. Seems like a riddle. Maybe it is some kind of pointing of the un-reality of what appears in our minds.

Obviously you have balanced longer, done more steps, but what do we mean by you or me, or us? We have a body, it is not us. So what is meant when we say "I" have done this or that? I have experienced what the body has done or does. But it is not me. But then if you were getting at this you would have written, I have never balanced, never taken a step, never done a push up.

So I'm not sure what you are trying to express in what you have written. Maybe pointing out the absurdity of looking for anything true or meaningful in words. Understanding and peace is beyond language.

We react to language, to mind, and this is related to perception. Maybe I can look at your words as I look at mine sometimes, as nothing at all. Actually not even this. Even to call them nothing at all is calling them something, is a perception. Maybe I don't even go this far. Maybe I realize there/here is nothing there/here to perceive. My attention sees symbols. letters on a page, and nothing more, chatter in my mind, I don't pay enough attention to it make it into something perceivable.

The space we are in is always empty. We choose to fill it with the stuff of mind.

BigJohn 23-08-2019 08:40 PM

We are told the cup is either half full or half empty........
while we are on this planet the cup is always full.

Phaelyn 24-08-2019 06:33 AM

We're always trying to see the grass between our toes with a telescope.

My first thought is to work out what/who you are. I've taken your comments at face value and assume them to be truthful.

A baby/toddler fits, but not the push-ups.

Perhaps a tightrope artist in training - and you haven't given enough context in your words. There's no mention of walking on a rope.

Interesting.

My initial perception, is "what timeframe are we talking about?"

It sounds like it should be prefixed by " In any given 3 minute period...."

My second perception would either be "so"? or "good for you" or "what has that gotta do with anything?"

My third perception would be "nothing to see here...move along Shivani".

A day in the life of a 12 month old baby.

You are spot on in that I "haven't given enough context" to my words.

I was able to accomplish this when I was going to college.
8 push-ups does not seem like much but when you are standing on your hands, 8 push-ups is a lot.
100 to 150 steps doesn't seem like much but when you are walking on your hands, it is substantial.
Balancing for 10 seconds does not seem like much unless it is on 1 hand.

Interesting analogy.

I got to try it sometime.

Shivani Devi 25-08-2019 12:59 AM

I know I am going to regret asking this, but how does one do push ups when they are standing on their hands?

You stand on your hands, and then bend your elbows till
the top of your head touches the floor, then you
straighten your elbows which completes one
push-up upside down.

Ah, I see. Thanks for replying.

BigJohn 25-08-2019 04:50 AM

My interest in balancing on one hand,
began in 7th grade after I broke my right wrist.

With a broken wrist, I could not stand on my hands
so I started standing on my left hand.

I think it's done Inadvertently every time we accept an idea.

The grass is already between the toes, the telescope is advertised as the instrument of seeing.

So true..........

unless you are upside down
then the grass is between your fingers.

I've planned to jump off a bridge.

How high is the bridge off the ground?

Don't know the exact height but the fall alone can kill you instantly.

Yeah, the first one. That was too easy. :D

Perceived scale is very interesting. We can experience ourselves as tall as a mountain or as small as a speck of dust.
