🥳DESIGN YOUR OWN TAROT CLASS🥳
In the past, I gave a class on how to design your own Tarot Deck.
If there is interest, I would like to give a class in which 'everyone' will get a deck and if they want, they will 'learn' how to design their own deck. IS THERE ANY INTEREST? |
yes I find it interesting
I can think of three decks I would like to invent it is interesting but I'm not sure I have what it takes to write a book to go with the cards |

It might be easier then you can imagine...... but then, we will cross that bridge when it happens. I think I will start next week. So hang around and see if we can have some fun. Okay? |
Sounds fun! Thank you for doing this John!

I thank you and hologram8. I haven't taught the class in a long time but when I did, it was fast paced and very easy to understand. If anybody has questions after it begins, just ask. |
FIRST
We will decide on the size of the tarot card. If the tarot cards are to be made out of easy to find card stock, we should pick a paper size available for all. Letter size is available to most people and A4 size, is smaller, and available to several people. Letter size is 8.5 " X 11" (216 x 279 mm) A4 size is 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 (210mm x 297mm) I have decided to use the A4 size but Letter size will also work. |
SECOND
Remember: Letter size is 8.5 " X 11" (216 x 279 mm) A4 size is 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 (210mm x 297mm) The card size we will follow is the size used in the Rider Waite deck which is 2.75" x 4.75" (69.85mm X 120.65. At this point, measurements will be only in inches. We will assume our paper size is at least 8-1/4" X 11". Most printers can not print within 1/4" from each order. This reduces our usable area to 7-3/4" X 10-1/2" From that we can calculate how many cards we can get per page. |
Next: I will show the layout for the cards on paper.
|
This is an awesome idea BIgJohn.I'm not into tarots anymore, but i'm sure it'll help others.
Thumbs up. |
Thanks for the thumbs up.

Soon, I will be presenting the layout for 5 cards on a piece of paper which will later be printed on card stock.
The hardest part of printing your own cards is the registration...... that is, making sure the front of the paper for each card aligns up perfectly with the backs of the cards on the back of the paper. For some, this is the hardest part because we will be using the mirror image of the front. |
I found it easier and less stressful to just send my designs through to a playing card printing service. Saves on all the aggravation of setting up your printer and printing errors and the quality is loads better than home printing.

I have designed a couple of decks. You immediately put yourself in the deck when you design and color it yourself, plus it can be fun. I have a number of Major Arcana cards that are 3-feet tall, which I did myself. At the temple where I studied Tarot, back in the 1970’s, they had 6-foot cards hanging on the walls. I put my 3-foot cards on the walls in my home, in my bedroom and my study, and that way the cards are the first thing I see when I awaken from sleep in the morning.

This is a 'fun' exercise. 'Seeing' how simple it is to layout a complete deck and print it can be fun and can be a way to proof the deck. |

Sounds like you turned them into posters. |
Here is the layout for the cards on paper.
Each paper shows which cards will be printed on that paper. For example, the first tarot card will go on paper one in the slot label 1. I will show you this later. |
Each card need a design that is the same for each card.
The design I came up with is uniform and is the same, if the card is upside down or not. |
Here is the design for the back of each card.
|
This is the layout for the back of the first 5 cards.
Card number 1 is 1/4" from the top and 1/4" from the right. The gap between card 1 and card 3 is 1/4" Card number 3 is 1/4" from the top. If you do this, the back of the cards will align up properly with the front of the cards. |
Back layout looks like this.
|
Here are the back of a piece of paper or cardstock with the backs of the cards on the paper.

Thank you John for all of this. I will have to study and digest as and when I am "able" ... But all very interesting... I know you have a very busy life, so Thanks again for taking the time.

Thanks lomax. |
The tarot deck presented will be based off the Rider Waite Deck of 1909.
The reason for using this deck is: most people are familiar with this deck and if they should buy a book based on the Rider Waite, the book will work with the cards presented. |
The first card will be the FOOL which is designated as number 0.
