You have reminded me that I need to get back to listening to more reggae. |

I have witnessed this. Puyallup is my wife's tribe. We live on a different reservation though, the Nisqually Indian Tribe. Which is one river down. We know many people in the vid. and we do participate in Canoe journey's and have since it's inception in 1989 I believe, called Paddle to Seattle. |

Never seen anybody summon/raise the wind, and with the cyclone season looming – wouldn’t play with it even for fun. Though during the cyclone season, when everybody is clued to their gadgets for weather reports, taping the windows and stocking up goods – I’m thinking: “Why don’t you just go outside and listen to the wind - what it says”. Seems that we have lost our ability to listen to the ‘elements’. So my song of the day is wind itself. * |

sentient, Ah, yes,... be careful what you wish for! I see this! I agree! Look and listen! There are times the wind tells us to run home and get in the basement! And I respect it! I was wondering what the elder think of the fusion music? Mixing new instruments with the traditional songs. |

Yes! That is a beautiful! Our talk about native music reminds me that in the beginning of the pandemic, so many dancers and singers and healers posted on Facebook to heal the world! The outpouring was amazing! I have looked for some of the videos, but they are only on Facebook. I feel as if barriers between peoples and culture might be thinning to where we are all beginning to see each other, our sameness, our humanity, our beauty. A glimmer of hope. It is really beautiful! |

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/el...JPG?imgmax=512 This pic. has a deer head. It is a common prow. Of course the owner can do whatever they want to represent what ever they deem best.(Clan, tribal symbols, canoe spirit etc.) I think all have the groove to hold a harpoon. Why the deer head ? It is said in Suquamish creation story the Creator turned a deer into the first canoe.:icon_rendeer: The story is told in this short video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waQ4eK7wfb8 Most of the NW coastal canoes are dugout from a large cedar tree. Some use modern methods to have a lighter weight canoe. The journey lasts from 1 week to 2 weeks. Paddling to different tribes and staying the night and off again to the next destination until everyone converges at a final host tribe location. Then every tribe or canoe family will share their songs and dances and words of wisdom with all in a performance or what is called protocol. Here is one explanation of canoe journey from the perspective of the S'klallum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFJVOoN2yE0 Here is a Nisqually song that a group of us traveled to a neighboring tribe to receive as a gift, after being invited to receive the song back in the mid. 90s. It is used by the Nisqually canoe family today as their song or anthem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9PTmSM1BU8 |

It is spiritual, in my book. A great lesson for life, in a simplistic easy to remember slogan. "Don't worry be Happy". I like the silly side. It goes hand in hand with "Laughter is medicine". Here is a couple of Natives that take silly to their hip hop music and have done pretty well. Warning explicit lyrics.(Drops a few "F" bombs) Boujee Natives Snotty Nose Rez Kids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSn1C_pLpoQ |
Autour du Rocher' Jimmy Buffet........filmed live at the Bête à z'aile night club on St Barts
Autour Du Roche (French....around the rock) tells the story of an infamous night club/ petite hotel that Jimmy Buffett owned back in the 1980's on St Barts island, French Antilles. It was built on top of a hill (the rock) overlooking the Caribbean sea....local lore was that you could see hell through the floorboards of the dance floor. The video shows the ruins of the place featuring a local model walking through it... This brings back memories for me because back in the day St Barts was my wife and I hangout and we went to Autour Du Roche many times! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-P0D49tFM |

Lucky 1, what a beautiful location! That is such a different feel, from typical Jimmy Buffet. I like the switch from black and white to color in the video. The bar scene has such a mass energy. Interesting to see in a video, like that. |

ImthatIm, thank you for explaining and sharing. I can almost feel the vibration from the singers and the drums! The video in the water mixed with the dancers, makes the whole video feel like a fish swimming up stream. Goose bumps! |

& yeah, I think it is one of :icon_rendeer: …. those things …. Though I have associated the moose oooor the deer head prows with skin-boats: http://www.paabo.ca/uirala/uini-seag...moose-boat.jpg Not sure if you are interested, (a bit tooooooo wordy for me to digest on one go), but it is a link I at times return to - ancestry ‘n’ symbolism ‘n’ stuff – and if one comes from ‘boat people’ - just about everything relates to boats innit. Some of this is true, some a bit pseudoscience me thinks, but barking at the same tree anyways: http://www.paabo.ca/uirala/uini-seagoingskinboats.html Drum – a shaman’s boat …. From cradle to grave it is a canoe journey … * |
