Silenced Roots

Wow – ain’t that the truth! Looks like I am related to almost all of these old Forest Saami families from the areas mentioned, yet grandmother never ever spoke about them - as though that side of her family had never existed. Glad they are coming out now. With English subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a5x...l=NinaMaaninka |
I can’t call myself a Saami or even a Forest Saami, since I did not live within that community, nor could I therefore wear their clothing – that is just not done. I can only talk about my Saami connections, which on one side (maternal grandmother’s) seems to be to the Finnish Forest Saami and on the other side to the Norwegian Saami (maternal grandfather’s), perhaps through the Valkeapää family relatedness.
