sentient, thank you for the lessons and the music! I was wondering whom Ms. H was talking about. |
Thank you Anala for this thread.
Through it I discovered Goa, people had spoken about. Wonder why I never thought to look it up. Youtube really is the best thing since sliced bread. Trippy – getting stoned in Goa music, but good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fk0FIQZh4o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1ULSETYk5k * |
Thank you all for taking me with you on your musical journey. I felt as if I saw the sights and sounds and traveled around the world with all of you. I am thankful to get to know each of you in a new way! :hug3:
Today it was quiet, no music, just the sound of the dryers in the silos, drying the corn and the occasional car driving by. I will just have to see where my dreams take me. |
I am impressed by musicians participating/collaborating in
(Playing for Change | Song Around The World) Here is one song called War/nomore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgWFxFg7-GU |
Another (Playing for Change | Song Around The World) song.
Get up Stand up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6szT5NnwTY Had to add in another song (One Love). I Love this collaborative stuff, it gives me hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xjPODksI08 |

Mae Moore - All I Can't Explain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqTC...h2UFiX&index=6 Her voice is like Suzanne's Vega. |
Okay, some explaining....I live on Mustang Island just south of Port Aransas TX and a bit north of Corpus Christi TX so this next one is kinda our "home town girl" from Corpus Christi who made it big (but was tragically murdered in 1995 at age 23)
Selena Quintanilla who many consider to be the queen of Tejano music. Tejano means a mix of Spanish and Texas cultures. Selena did it all from traditional Spanish music to Tejano to pop (in English) and when she played the Astrodome in Houston TX she sold the place out....more than 65,000 people packed into the Astrodome...holding the record there for ticket sales...even out selling KISS in that venue. Selena holds a special place in Texans hearts...the poor girl from the west side who made it big only to be tragically murdered......in death she is has been literally immortalized in Texas. So, I'm going to give everyone a taste of what she did.... First something in traditional Spanish No Me Queda Mas (there's nothing more) A young woman lamenting the loss of her lover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCi-Xp2TVoQ Now a Spanish song in Tejano Bidi Bidi Bom Bom (She's saying that her heart goes "bidi bidi bom bom" when she sees a boy she likes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKGbjJarMeA Now some pop in English....this one was released posthumously a couple of months after she died Dreaming Of You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRU2qs82DAg |
Lucky1 -Thank you! Re: Selena
Because of you I found so much about her I didn't know! I left TX years ago so was not aware. |

A couple of female singers I admire - who get right into - embody the spirit of things:

Everyone immediately knew who did it.... Yolanda Saldivar ,head of Selena's fan club had been embezzling money....Selena confronted her in private and she shot her. This is very much the short version...a lot when on... Saldivar is serving life in prison without parole. Okay....one more! Como La Flor (like a flower) Live at the Houston Astrodome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwZTgDjRLM0 Rest in Peace Selena....como mi duele ella se ha idio (how it hurts me she's gone) |

I like that first one a lot! |

ImthatIm listened to all of the Playing for Change this morning! Great way to start the day! Hopeful!
sentient, I really enjoyed the lyrics of the songs. Lucky 1 thank you for sharing Selena, she had such innocence and such a beautiful voice. It is so sad, her story. And Miss H, Still waiting for you to bare your musical soul. (P.S.- I like the new color. Does this mean you passed your test?) |
Okay...enough doom and gloom with murdered singers.
It's time for some fun!!!!! The quintessential Texas college frat boy song!!!!! Todd Snyder.....BEER RUN!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyCPhIjmk-s |
Now in BEER RUN....you will have heard references to another Texas song writer Robert Earl Keen and his song "The Road Goes on Forever" the story of star crossed lovers who met in a bar and ended up going on a crime spree.
So here is Robert Earl Keen's "The Road Goes On Forever (and the party never ends) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN3BlPIwg2U |

Todd Snyder.....BEER RUN!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyCPhIjmk-s :laughing4: reminds me of a story a friend told my son! |
Running Up that Hill, performed by Track and Field.
https://youtu.be/0xGbi6lYFO8 This song was originally sung by Katie Bush, but I never really felt the words until I heard it sung by Track and Field. Slower, it hits a different note in my heart. The most difficult lesson for me in this lifetime is to learn to let people experience life as they need to and not swoop in and try to heal or fix or save... especially difficult as a parent... |

I sort of know this bluegrass, country & celtic folk music, but I don’t know them, because I have not lived them in a social setting. I sort of have an idea what Lucky 1 means with beer runs, but I don’t, because I haven’t lived it in a social setting. Can’t really be into environmental movements, working with indigenous issues or be into Tibetan Buddhism without meeting people from the hippie trails, yet I haven’t lived that ‘social set’ either. Had intended to go to India, but now that I have seen documentaries of the trail, I can let that old intent go as I realized it wouldn’t have been my cup of tea, so just as well. So, how our lives are kind of channelled into certain experiences by circumstances .... * |

I did have comments on your "Beer run" and "The road goes on forever" but it was depressing since I had to give up beer runs, since they did lead to crime sprees. LOL  |

Great Song Oh my goodness, how I had forgotten.... songs from my high school days. Reminds me of my brother. I did not see this concert, but remember the place and sights... Day on the Green - Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA Road BART up to the concert with my brother and his two friends. They swore to my mom they would take care of me and keep me from harm. I was 16 and my brother & his friends were 18. Saw a woman in the parking lot in a mink coat trying to buy illegal things with a credit card. Very eye opening experience. We saw Boston and Eddy Money and Sammie Hagar... |
