Love is not an emotion. Influenced by the emotion of patriotism, groupism and ideology people maim and kill other people of differing sects and views.

It is pure consciousness that is love, and this is revealed in a state where there is no defilements or impurities in the consciousness in the form of cravings and aversions.

All crimes and violence can be traced back to cravings and aversions which forces one to transcend virtuous conduct and turn vicious.
