Is spirituality a phase from which you return back from or a life-long pursuit?

Hi everyone,

Is spirituality a phase from which you return back to the material world or a life-long pursuit?

Thanks :)

........... or it could be something that makes you feel special, a label bestowed upon you by somebody(s) or possibly yourself that sits you apart from others.

It is different for different people.

Some may embrace a spiritual path at one stage of their lives, but then later the demands of physical life take priority (family, mortgage, career, etc.).

Others may embrace a spiritual path filled with enthusiasm and then discover it is actually quite difficult. They may become disillusioned with their lack of progress or maybe their teacher turns out to be a disappointment. At some point they give up and return to the easier existence of the material world.

And some feel a deep inner compulsion to pursue their spiritual journey throughout their lives. There may be times when they want to give up, there may be long periods when they simply don't want to sit down and meditate, but something within knows that this worldly life is temporary. So they always return to their spiritual pursuit.

It is the rare Soul who embraces the spiritual path and never has doubts, always retains their enthusiasm, and has the self-discipline to maintain their practice in all circumstances.

Peace

... return back to the material world...?

I would say, No.
When you have had fine wine - you usually don't go back to the cheap stuff.

To continue with the metaphor...you may even start visiting vineyards and getting to know the owners,
the vintner...refining your taste even more. :glasses9:

BigJohn,

As described that appears as a program of the ego and, therefore, would be difficult to describe as genuine spirituality. Without humility there is no spirituality.

Spirituality seems to mean different 'things' to different people and appears to be not fully definable.
And to make things more confusing, what one considers to be spiritual might not be considered spiritual in their near future.

In some ways, it is akin to some in a group claiming one person is a 'low vibration whereas the others in the group might actually believe the person is a 'high vibration".

I would agree with iamthat.i can relate with a lot of what he says.for myself i was Born seeing and Hearing spirit.
so i was born with it i had a view of the World that not many others had.
I am not alone with this but like iamthat has said when Life gets in the way some people forget the spiritual path.

For myself that didn't happen I am a medium

Namaste

BigJohn,

We can count ourselves as fortunate to have never belonged to such a group. The idea of passing judgement on others should be alien to anyone on the spiritual path. If there was even consensus it would be meaningless….the majority might be totally ignorant. I would go so far that they would be amiss if they even engaged in such an activity…….

I think you missed the point I was trying to make.

Just look at this Forum and you will see a lot of threads devoted to trying to define Spirituality with apparently none seeming to draw a conclusive definition.
