North and South Nodes
 

Yesterday I had a chance to read more about NN and SN. Why do they make the explanations so difficult?

Yes, many astrological terms can be obscure.

Very simply, for those unfamiliar with the nodes, the nodes are the points formed by the Moon's orbit around the Earth as they intersect with the Earth's path around the Sun. Clear as mud.

In other words, there are two nodes, the North and South Nodes which appear on the birth-chart 180 degrees apart. The South Node represents the past, the things we have attained, the gifts we bring into this life. The North Node represents our destiny, the things we have to work on and develop.

Some astrologers consider the North Node to be one of the most important features of the birth-chart, and it is often overlooked in an interpretation.

A much recommended book on the North Node in each of the signs is Astrology For The Soul by Jan Spiller. This is fairly straightforward reading.

And of course, in Vedic astrology the North and South nodes of the moon are very important. They are called Rahu and Ketu. Rahu signifies the main area of focus in our lives, and Ketu relates to past life knowledge which is pertinent to our current incarnation. Together they indicate the karmic influences at play in our lives.
