What on earth is a demonologist?

Sounds pretty scary to me!!!

Sorry, didn't know where to ask this....

I remember Lorraine and Ed Warren? They wrote various books on demonology and basicaly were like exorcists without being priests...they went about cleansing homes and people of demons, supposedly.

Now I had to google them myself. I used to read their books when I was a teenybopper.

Wow, I was surprised they are still alive. Little youtube clip of Lorraine in the website...she's a trance medium and Ed is the demonologist.

Oh, so it's not scary at all - they get rid of demons!
Well, that's a relief.
Thanks

No they don't get rid of demons. A demonologist is one who studies demons. From Demon+ology(ologist).
Demonology the science of Demons (study)
Demonologist one who studies the science of demons.
Absolutely nothing to do with exorcising spirits or removing demons.

Quote:

As the name sufficiently indicates, demonology is the science or doctrine concerning demons. Both in its form and in its meaning it has an obvious analogy with theology, which is the science or doctrine about God. And with reference to the many false and dangerous forms of this demonic science we may fitly adapt the well-known words of Albertus Magnus on the subject of theology and say of demonology, A daemonibus docetur, de daemonibus docet, et ad daemones ducit ("It is taught by the demons, it teaches about the demons, and it leads to the demons"). For very much of the literature that comes under this head of demonology is tainted with errors that may well owe their origin to the father of falsehood, and much of it again, especially those portions which have a practical purpose (what may be called the ascetical and mystical demonology) is designed to lead men to give themselves to the service of Satan.
Taken from the Catholic encyclopedia.

Oh, that's right, with the ology (study of), but why then do the Warrens for example spend 50 years out and about trying to cast out demons? Apparently, they took their studying to another level...

Lorraine and Ed Warren I could personally discribe them and there nephew John Zaffis and the last words I would ever think of to discribe them would be Demonologist but this term is being coined by psychics and some preachers. I study Demonology and basically it is a indepth study of theology and cultures who needed to discribe a dark presence. Many cultures have similiar beings some are named most popular with people who claim to be "Possessed" recently is Baal I think because its a name easily rememberd.
I have studied all branches interviewed luciferian's and or people who have claimed to make a deal with a demonic or the devil also Rabbi's and Priests. Its a study of culture and superstitions connected to dark places nothing scary about it. Cause I am completly detached from it it means nothing to me but finding the truth.
In culture and superstitions.

A demonologist is a person who studies demons yes i agree. But some of them do get rid of demons. That's if they believe in their selves if they can do it. Or if they are ready too battle a demon. It usually takes a lot of energy out of you to do that. You have to be well prepared.

I think they are the people that study demonic stuff including demons.

Hello! I'm new to this site, but I actually know a few things (despite being new to Wicca)

A demonologist is someone who studies demons.
For example, someone who studies herbs - how they grow, act, look, everything, is called a Herbologist.
So this is the same. But someone who studies demons.

Blessings,

Arian Hawk:smile:

I think Demonology came to the attention of most people in the SciFi Channel's recurring series, "GhostHunters".

The Team originally traveled (sometimes) w/ a Catholic Priest who was a Demonologist and an Exorcist and he would attend certain cases--where they concluded that a malevolent presence was to blame for the disturbance and he would exorcise said presence.

NegativeEnergyElementals can be very scary for any who are unschooled in how best to deal with them.

I (personally) don't mind your thread being posted here--but it would probably gain more attention and feedback in the "General Beliefs" section.

Good to see you (again).

Peace and Love on your path to discovering the Mysteries...

Blessed be...
