Vegetarianism and it effects in spirituality

Hi Members,
I would like to hear your opinions.
Do you think being vegetarian provides some benefits in one's spiritual life?
Thank you.

My take on this from personal exp.

''some benefits''? Yes, from years and years of being vegetarian for spiritual reasons..
Now, is it necessary to 'withstand' higher energy going through your body
and maintaining it in meditation?
Well, it sure does help!!!
(But many things help - like not eating foods that cause gas or indigestion...keeping a clean diet, period.)
Would it hurt to eat small amounts of org meats? I do not think so.
Could even benefit your health...thus, your spiritual life would have less distractions.

Yes, as long as your body can handle it. We are different and not everyone can do as well excluding an entire food group. Humans evolved as omnivores but vegetarians still get their animal food through dairy and eggs so it is generally okay.

I think vegetarianism is beneficial in a subtle way. I don't think it's nice that all those animals are fattened and put in trucks to be send to the slaughterhouse. Modern animal farming is very impersonal and literally like a death camp.

However it's also true that people were spiritual before civilization and before civilization we all depended on hunting, and in the wilds I see no moral argument against eating another animal.

It would be nice if vegetarian meals became more normal and the animal food around was all organic.

Thank you for your replies Miss Hepburn and Altair. :)

I'm a lacto-vegetarian most of the time. But I have a deep craving for desserts like cakes and pastries. So I still consume egg in the form of desserts.

It sure helps the animals that aren't being killed on their spiritual journey. Thinking of others is partially what spirituality is about. Beside that, it helps clear our own chakra of the emotions of animals that were previously killed.

Not eating meat or animals, will not give you greater connection to your spirit/soul on the other hand, if you gain greater access to your spirit/soul, you might stop eating animals.

This is exactly how I have been feeling, I have come so far on my spiritual journey, as a meat eater, and now I just can't eat meat anymore, it makes me feel sick, but I have no knowledge of preparing a good variety of meals without meat, but this is something I will take time to learn, I began by reducing my intake of meat until I was having only chicken twice a week, but struggle with ideas, I still have milk and butter and cheese, but not meat, I think doing it gradually so your body gets use to it, and you adapt, but don't put pressure on yourself. Jesus ate fish which was not a sin, and I can't stand fish.

I remember reading a blog about this, certain animals eat plants, humans eat plants, so does that make it ok for humans to eat animals that eat plants? but not animals that don't eat plants, for me I just don't want to eat meat anymore, its been gnawing at me for a while, and I am wanting to be vegan eventually, but at the moment I am like a flexitarian.

Is it OK to get others to kill animals for us if we wish to eat them?Or do it ourselves,if there is karma or sin involved then it may be better for us to do the deed ourselves, but we would have to have the knowledge of how to kill the creature humanely-could any reading this who eat meat kill the animal yourself?I found it easy picking fruit and pulling veg,a little harder to dispatch a fish.

Personally "no". I do not believe being vegetarian provides benefits in ones spiritual life.
But that is merely my own belief.
I fail to see how being vegetarian makes a scrap of difference.

( Plus I'm with Pod. There is no way I could catch, clean , and eat a fish.
It's bad enough in the fishmongers when the fish has been cleaned and prepared but the head is still on with the eye looking at you ).

I think if we lived more natural lives and had to kill to eat,we may feel better only killinp what we need to,it may inpact on our mental, spiritual and physical life to over kill just due to it tasting good.
