Any anime people out there?
 

I've really been wanting to talk about some of my favorite anime shows that I think people here may enjoy. I know anime isn't for everyone, and I have a really hard time finding one that I truly enjoy (just this morning I spent a couple hours looking through several suggestions until I found one I liked). Anyways, the one I really wanted to mention is called Ghost Hunt. It's a fun and interesting anime about a Psychic Research Team that take on cases involving paranormal phenomena. The first couple of cases can be a little boring, but the show as a whole is awesome!

I just recently started watching Psychic Detective Yakumo as well (unfortunately this is available in English sub only, which is usually an automatic no for me but after watching the first episode I decided I couldn't resist). It's about this kid named Yakumo who can see ghosts with his left eye. He takes on cases involving paranormal phenomena as well, with the goal of communicating with spirits to help them pass on.

Anyways, i've got a few great suggestions for animes if anyone is interested in getting into watching anime but not sure where to start.

Hi I have not really explored anime but it is something that I am interested in! i watched Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, and Naruto when I was younger and Spirited Away is one of my favorite movies. The Psychic Detective show sounds neat I'll definitely look into it! And I'd love to hear any other suggestions you have :-)

Oh yes, those are definitely some popular ones! I did love me some Pokemon when I was younger as well. And of course all of Hayao Miyazaki's films are wonderful (I really like Howl's Moving Castle and The Cat Returns).

If you are not really used to watching anime, the Psychic Detective show might throw you off a bit. But for a beginner, I would suggest:
-Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood -> The series follows the story of two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy. I have yet to find someone who doesn't like this show. It's the first anime I started watching that really got me into it all.
-Death Note -> It centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the titular "Death Note". This notebook grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know. The series follows Light's subsequent efforts to create a criminal-free utopia using the notebook, and the efforts of a detective known as L to stop him. This is less action-packed and more of a mind game, but again it's rated as one of the top anime series out there.
-Samurai Champloo -> The story is set during a fictional version of Japan in the Edo period with an anachronistic, predominantly hip-hop, setting. It follows Mugen, an impudent and freedom-loving vagrant swordsman; Jin, a cool-headed and stoical ronin; and Fuu, a brave young girl who asks them to accompany her in her quest across Japan to find the "samurai who smells of sunflowers". This anime will really help you decide if you want to delve any deeper into other series lol. I really enjoyed it, but it is definitely unique and show's how different anime is from regular cartoons.

Anyways, i'm glad to hear you want to watch more! I hope you like these things! Of course there are so many different ones out there I'm sure there is something you will really enjoy. The hard part is taking the time to find it!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Ghost Hunt, Samurai Champloo, and most of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are available on Netflix right now. The others you can find easily by just typing in the name of the show and then typing the episode you want (i.e. death note episode 1). Almost all anime is available online for free and this is the best way I have found to search for it.

Thanks for the summaries and suggestions! They all sound wonderful. I'm currently re-watching Avatar the Last Airbender :tongue: so I'll look into them as soon as I finish it!

My favorites are :

Ghost in the Shell : The movie is awesome and has some of the most complex philosophy I have in a mainstream film. I also like GitS innocence which is the sequel to GitS. Mamoru Oshii is the best.

Ghost in the shell stand alone complex : Simply love the visionary ideas of the creators.

Black lagoon : I know its not spiritual. But hey, I need a dose of mindless violence once in a while. It has some decent characterization as well. The dub is superior imo

Spice and Wolf : The ideal romance anime. English is the language to watch it in.

Mushishi : This is the most spiritual anime I have seen to date. It's episodic which means you can watch the episodes in any order.

Kino's journey : An episodic anime like mushishi. It has some thought provoking commentary on human society.

Robotech, Ghost Hunt, Sailor Moon, Miyazaki's works, Spice and Wolf, Avatar, Skip Beat!, Kimi in Todoki, Natume, Chihayafuru, Hanasaku Iroha, Cardcaptors Sakura, Candy Candy, Chi's Sweet Home, Usagi Drop, Saki, Erin, Bleach, La Corda D'Oro, Miracle Train, and Orange Road are some of my favorites.

love love love Studio Ghibli, nearly watched all their movies, I can't even pick a favourite, though I did find grave of the fireflies extremely sad!

Really enjoyed watching Animatrix.
The one about the girl looking for her missing cat was absolutely superb. I could almost feel the summer heat radiating from the screen!

Found Vexille just by chance, rummaging through a bargain bin in a thrift shop.
It was OK - quite tame! - with moments of sheer genius.

Yeah, I've been a fan for long time, since the mid 90s. Usually prefer subs. Always found their style of storytelling to be much more mature than traditional american animation.
