founding of hypnosis

i just read a book on the founding of hypnosis and who would've thought that hudennies trick of the coffin under water for hr and half would have been due to self hypnosis and the focus of his breathing to keep him in the state of mind to preserve his oxygen.

He kinda took the methods from others . Yoga masters that can slow down there breathing . I think modern hypnosis goes back to S. Freaud , and Carl Jung . By the way Hudennie name was Eric Wise .

Modern hypnotism comes from Franz Mesmer (hence mesmerise) in the late 1700s. It was successfully used as a painkiller during operations but soon after, the pharmacuetical industry was born and introduced chloroform - which could be sold for a profit.

Freud and Jung were over 100 years later...

Frank Mesmer learned from Father Heller. Who did Father Hell(er) learn from?

It is my understanding that Germaine taught Mesmer in Austria.
