There is this thing – it is not racism as such, but what should one call it … “white dignity”, or “red dignity” - which keeps blacks at arm’s length.
Amerinds, the ones I have known, who made 'Straya' their home had this too, which I still cannot understand.

I imagine what you refer to as dignity is more of a survival technique.
Or "Collective identity".
I also imagine that it may have to do with stereotyping.
It maybe as simple as black or darkness is scary or evil and gets a bad rap.
Where white gets a good or holy, purity stereotype.

I am only guessing. I really don't know.

Since I don’t have it, I can’t really understand it. It just feels a bit like a ‘fence’, one is not to go outside of.

But “red dignity” – when obviously there is interest, commonality and understanding on deeper levels.
Perhaps they know, they would be ‘owned’… ‘adopted’ in a heartbeat, which would set up an expectation to become involved and they know this involvement only too well from their own tribal communities - how it can get …..
