Copy & Paste rules

I think the original 'sticky' Copy & Paste rules need to be more explanatory.

I found out, to my cost, that the 2 sentence rule not only applies to text from elsewhere BUT ALSO when replying to a member's post on here! :icon_eek: Who knew? :icon_frown:

Is this a recent addition? If so it sorely needs to be made clear.
I think some members are getting punished for something they hadn't realised due to lack of clarity.

Please address this asap.

Around Nov 2020, one month after I became a Mod...it was said on most every thread 2-3 sentences when quoting.
Then reminders are made even today. *shrug*
I just follow what I'm told.
I will be interested in what is said on this thread.

What Miss Hepburn said is correct. we were told that some of the quotes were too long, and taking up too much space.
so the rule came in saying that no more than Two or Three sentences were allowed.

It may be so, but technically, text uses very little memory space.

This reminds me my mother's telling a story about an older aunt of hers that was holding her bags in her lap, to be easier on the horses that pulled the cart.

And the bottom line is...it doesn't matter what reason is given; that is what is wanted.
Why do you have to wear a tie in the Country Club Dining Room...makes no sense ...But you still
have to since it's a 'club' with their own policies.
(No shorts either, even if designed by Versace!)

Good, valid point! Furthermore it's a dumbing down in communication and understanding since a member may be quoted to reply to SEVERAL points they made!!! If only 2 mean sentences are allowed then it obviously doesn't incorporate points made that are being replied to!!

It is a ridiculous, nonsensical and hazy new 'rule' that is unannounced properly and will have a negative/confusing impact on members' ability to make sense of debates if they can only quote a mere 2 sentences of a previous member's post.

I strongly feel that mods need to get together and debate the (dubious) value of this overly constrictive rule which, by the way, is still not yet enforced/made clear in a relevant post! All that members read is the copy and paste applying to commercial links, therefore
there will be innocent breaches of this odd requirement which is inconsistent, lacks clearly acknowledged authority and the 'offender' should be let off the hook!

I sincerely hope that the disadvantages are fully understood and that this badly thought out request is no longer required. Either way it needs to be made clear, i.e. a post in this section. Members are not yet informed!!!
