What Music are you Listening to at the Moment?
 

Thought this would be a fun thread to start off in here!

Music is my first love :angel12: - always searching for emotional and expressive songs and albums...

Right now I am listening to the album Salvation by Alphaville - it's a fabulous homage to synthpop - I love their original album with Forever Young, Big in Japan etc... Yes, I am a child of the 80s :D ...

Good question.
At the moment I'm listening to the 'Scissor Sisters' latest album. They are a very funky/poppy band from New York.
Also, and strangely for me, I'm getting into Metal (new and old), I really like the 'Heaviness' and drive.

And for my staple diet of music I have my House Music collection, which I could not be without. As someone once said; "Not everyone understands House Music; its a Soul thing, a Body thing, a Spiritual thing..."

i've been still thrashing Interpol, an NY band i started listening to last year and can't stop, i love their music.

i've also been guilty of nostallgia and have been listening to a lot of music from last summer in UK like Athelete, Arctic monkeys, Bloc party etc...

i'm relaxing to The Beautiful South's album Blue is the Colour, the Lost in Translation soundtrack and the Boards of Canada...

and downloading old songs that remind me of my childhood for nostalgia again...even rod stewart and the scorpians! i actually burst into tears when i heard Winds of Change again...i finally went to Berlin this year and it now means even more to me.

I love my genuine native Hawaiian music, and some ethnic(?) music of an African group who did "Boheme"; some Native American CDs; some music from "WingMakers" website; various meditation CDs. Occasionally I'll put on a classic of Beethoven or Mendelsohn or Bach or other traditional CDs.

Over my life, my sanity has been saved several times by having some lovely music to play...

was it bad boy bill?? i could almost swear, bad boy bill "said" that (at least one of the first to "say" it). i quite agree though, not everyone understands house music. many try to include break beats and what not into the same genre as house; wrong!!! house is in a class of its own...

music, to me, ...well, bob marley said it: "one good thing about music; when it hits ya, you feel no pain. so hit me with music" ...i coulndt say it better!!
let me play my broken record and say 311 and bob marley are my all time favourties. 311, for there spiritual views, bomb beats and riffs, x-treme energy and unique sound, immitated by many, matched by none!!

i have been getting into my old teenage passion of U2 again. bono has always been on a spiritual quest so to speak and i always identified with his search. so i have been loving songs like Gloria, 2 hearts beat as one, beautiful day, city of shining lights,


acrobat from the achtung baby album has always been my favourite. especially when i was in my darkest moments. it helped draw me out and fight for myself again :)

Especially their two albums Songs From the Wood and Heavy Horses, I was listening to it the other day and it was brilliant.

One critic actually said that SFTW was the greatest album he hadd ever listened to.

I bought a cd recently of Native American music which I have never listened to before. So good for meditating.
This one is called 'Spiritual Music' Indians relax songs.

True Bono has always been on a spiritual quest. That drew me to the band too. My favorit U2 songs are 'All I want is You' and 'Bad'(The Live Version), 'New Years Day' etc, the list goes on. They are excellent.

Jethro Tull are cool too.

i love new year's day as well. spooky to me now as my partner's mother died on new year's day. those lines "i want to be with you night and day, but nothing changes on new year's day...i will be with you again" make me cry for him.

i love the live version of bad. i love them all :)

Since you are a U2 fan, can I ask you what you think of their latest album; 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb'?
I have not got it yet and I was wondering if its still as good as their earlier stuff.

i've drifted from their later works. the music just hasn't grown and moved on. they are like retirement albums in a way. but some songs stand out. i think vertigo is a great song...so is city of blinding lights. the live version is better and more powerful though. bono really seems to feel the words he's singing there.

maybe i haven't given it the listen i should have. it does seem so much more of a reflective album. i guess because the music didn't grab me, i didn't really absorb the songs and their lyrics much. i will give it a better chance and listen to it more.

all that you can't leave behind was another album that didn't grab me except beautiful day and new york (whoah what a song). my favourite U2 albums are achtung baby and zooropa. i loved the concepts behind those albums. and i have rediscovered their first albums because of bono's almost naked longing to understand. and i can identify with that more now than when i was younger.

oh and i have always adored the unforgettable fire album.

some of the lyrics in their later songs are wiser and special in that way...but other songs feel forced sort of.

oops...sorry, went on a bit. what do you think of them today? what are your favourite albums?

i have a new favourite song called young folks by peter, bjorn and john. not exactly spiritual music but if anyone here likes the sound of a swedish pop band who whistle a lot then i recommend downloading it :D

The later albums seem a bit forced to me too. I remember when U2 first started; there was a half Polish chap with me at school and he was a huge fan of theirs who got me to sit up and pay some attention to them.
They were a very fresh, idealistic young band with a totally unique sound.
My favorite albums are; War, Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby. Their very early stuff and their later stuff is fine but it just does not do it for me.
I still think they have integrity as a band today, infact I think they are aging and their music is maturing rather gracefully (compared to some bands).
But younger bands and their music is more original and 'essential'.

that's so true honza! and i do love how the band have grown as people and it does reflect in many of their lyrics too.

that's why i love pj harvey. i grew as she grew and she sings about that growth in each album. and with each album she gets better and better. same with bjork.

Its great to know what everyone likes to listen to. I suppose that we all have different moods at different times and so what we listen to will in fact stimulate that mood at that time. As for me I can listen to many genres of music depending on how I feel, even classical. But my all time favourites are those songs that will make you feel. Those that are beautiful and fill your heart with with a kind of ecstasy feeling like that Angel song by Sarah McLaughlan and those of Norah Jones. At the moment what moves me inside is most important. Right now I am listening to the songs of a young New Zealand artist called Brooke Fraser, she is very stimulating. What is most impressive though is that I am a man and I'm not gay. How I can feel like this suprises even myself.
