The Supreme Panchamukhi
 

This is Hanuman, who is considered the greatest spiritual achiever in the present universal cycle, and consequently he will attain the role of Brahma the creator god, in the next universal cycle.

This is interesting because Hanuman was a being with primate monkey like characteristics who at the same time had near human intelligence and communication skills.

Osho was of the opinion that Hanuman may be the missing link between primates and humans.

Hanuman was quick to identify the Avatar Rama and serve him with great passion, humility and courage, undertaking dangerous feats in this regard. He was someone similar to Christoper in strength and courage who carried the infant Christ.

Rama was twelve degrees or kalas in the scale of perfection, while Hanuman was fourteen degrees or kalas in perfection.

It is said that the primate Hanuman rose even above the Avatar Rama due to his humility and devotion. When we bow down to someone in humility and love, it is said that we rise above that person. By bowing to Rama in love and obedience to him in executing his tasks, Hanuman rose above Rama as well.


Imho, Hanuman's love for Rama can be compared to Radha's love for Krishna. His whole life was an offering of love and service to Rama and Dharma.

You can say that Hanuman exemplifies this great saying of Yogananda, and through his deep and intense love for Rama, overcame his primate limitations in order to serve him effectively in his Avataric mission, and attain enlightenment.

Hanuman took the Panchamukhi form for slaying the demonic king of the netherworld Ahiravana, who was also Ravana's brother.

This form has the faces of Narasimha, Hayagriva, Garuda and Adivaraha, which are associated with the lion, horse, eagle and boar respectively.

Imo, this shows that the Panchamukhi Hanuman was the combined form of the vitality contained in the animal and bird species, which had come together in the service of the Divine in the form of the Avatar Rama.

It also probably shows that Hanuman exerted himself to the utmost creatively for eliminating the demonic force.

I would say this ranks as one of his greatest feats, the others being his voyage to Lanka and procuring the healing sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas.

IMO It is simple depiction of deity with fivefold qualities required to save Ram and laxman from demonic influences and not necessarily having 5 physical heads . Further it is true that name of his race meant monkey but not necessarily he may have monkey traits . He was very highly powerful and intelligent . He was the suo moto diplomatic person who vanquished opponent in their own land with least weaponry and manpower. On most controversial decisions (like taking enemy brother in our military top team) Ram would consult him .

Even today people talk in sense of animals when teams play matches like when Australia wins match against New zealand , newspapers kangaroos vanquished kiwis .
