The Dyatlov Pass

Came across a song by a Russian/Ukranian band retelling the story of an ill-fated adventure of 9 Russians into the Ural Mountains:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJwsXmM8tsc

Is that profile in the rock at 01:07 (?) …. the one that resembles a ragged woman bearing a child in her hands?
Is that the Komi Goddess “Zarni-Ań” (The Golden Woman), the Mansi calls ”Sorni-Nai”, the rock formation which is said to strike mortal fear in Russians?

Artistic Image of the Deity/Rock Goddess:

(The 3 figures on both sides of the Goddess/Deity, I trust are the wooden-pole figures indicating a Sacred Site).

A S**tty Hollywood horror-fantasy movie about the mystery (mixing in some facts):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYoPdFFRnpM

But like in 9:15 the Mansi says:
Quote:

It is believed to be a place, where two worlds collide, where you can step from one world into another – into the world of spirits.
…. & that sounds true enough – there are those places ……
(And no, he is not culturally appropriating Native Americans by the way he dresses or looks or what he says).

Not too far from there are the Komi “7 Strong Men” rock formations:

Not that I would know what happened to the 9 Russians, but the song is nice - quite sophisticated, artistic doom rock/metal that ‘paints an atmospheric picture’ of the dark & gloomy North.

But why were the deaths of the 9 associated with the Komi&Mansi Rock Goddess?
Quote:

Supporters of the mystical version of the tragedy are confident that the students killed goddess Mansi — Sorni Nai. As evidence they cite the following case: a few years after the death of Dyatlov in the same area allegedly killed another group of Leningrad, which consisted … also of nine people.
In general, the chain of evil Death dates back to ancient times: according to legend, once upon a time in these places the Golden Woman killed … nine other hunters Mansi. Then the place became known as "Mountain of the Dead".

Well, maybe the 9 Mansi – (persecuted by Russians?) – went to the ‘portal’ and vanished in the thin air.
That I could actually believe as far-fetched as it sounds.

In addition to the 1959 incident - 9 Russians dying in plane crash 1991 too …… ?

But all those Russians being killed by the fertility Rock Goddess – no …. that is just a silly superstition.

And where is that Goddess? Is the foto down the page (next to ‘testimonials’) a side view of her?

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Russians had been developing some (infra-sound) & other weaponry there using the indigenous 'myths' as a cover.

An angry Russian Bigfoot using infra-sound?

It is a pity, that now I can not express - it is compelled to leave. But I will return - I will necessarily write that I think on this question.

In it something is also idea excellent, I support.

That incident was the strangest thing! I wonder what did happen to those young people? God rest their Souls.

A mundane idea I had was that they died from exposure, hypothermia. What made them all flee in the night? It could have been a strange light/sound/animal threat perhaps? Or maybe even the threat of fire in the tents (even though that didn't happen, the threat of it could make someone run out into the snow.)
Had they all eaten something inadvertently that evening....maybe hallucinogenic?
Crows or ravens could have removed eyes and even maybe tongue post-mortem. That would be a typical thing to happen to anything already dead. Scavengers will always go for softer or already open body parts first.

Then there is that "paradoxical heat" victims of hypothermia get in 3rd stage. If for instance, they had not been warm enough in the tents and were already succumbing to hypothermia they may have gone outside in 3rd stage hypothermia to feel cooler.....and sadly, not made it back to cover.

Just mundane ideas. The truth may always be a mystery and we will never know.

With mysteries like this, one’s biases come out.
I automatically suspect the Russians themselves and their military.
Russians automatically suspect the ‘natives’ and their ‘evil goddesses’ and ‘evil shamen’.

And this is how the Russians market their tours:

Quote:

Dyatlov pass is a notorious place located near the mountains Otoren and Kholatchakhl, which translates from the languages of the local tribes as "don't go" and "mountain of death". These names of the mountains have received it long before the case of group of Dyatlov. In ancient times, local shamans sacrificed animals to the goddess of death on the tops of these mountains. One day, instead of animals, shamans sacrificed not animals but nine young hunters of their tribe. Since then, the goddess of death requires the sacrifice of only people, and be sure to nine people. Locals do not go to these mountains without the need, and if they go, they ensure they are not nine men.
Honestly! What a load of ……. !

Yep, I thought so as well.
