What makes you feel alive?

Just curious. What activities, spiritual or otherwise makes your heart beat a little (or a lot) faster? What makes you tingle with excitement, and joy? Tell us about it.

Honza 21-05-2019 02:58 PM

War gaming for me. Not video or computer games, but rather the old fashioned map and cardboard pieces games with big rule books.

JosephineB 21-05-2019 03:16 PM

Having a purpose.

Anala 22-05-2019 01:43 AM

Dancing and figure skating and gardening!

Khalli 22-05-2019 05:35 AM

Swimming, music, art and riding my motorcycle.

Dargor 22-05-2019 11:26 AM

Aw, not even being snarky makes you feel alive? :)

For me, the basics: food, water, fire, music, gardening, camping, hiking, swimming, floods, tornadoes, thunderstorms, earthquakes....I live in the central United States, so our lovely weather is thick with storms and tornadoes right now.

Snarky? Well, that's something new.

Well more alive than you usually feel?

I usually don't feel alive at all. To me death is a state of being, not necessarily limited to the afterlife.

ocean breeze 23-05-2019 09:44 PM

Jumping out of planes, jumping off bridges, jumping off cliffs, sparring, sexuality, martial arts training, running, getting lost, nature hikes, exploring new places.

It's because you aren't doing what you are supposed to be doing, you are unfulfilled. I know another man like this, he's been like this all of his adult life, he is now 50 years old.

I have two jobs, I go out a lot, I visit all kind of places. I live a quite social life. If this isn't what I should be doing, then please kindly tell me what i am supposed to do? because I don't recall being dropped off here on this planet with some kind of secret mission.

I don't necessarily believe that one a needs a purpose to feel alive. I think it can be nice to have one (or maybe not). I personally feel there is a lot of great things to appreciate in this world even if it's as simple as enjoying the way the light shines through a window. If you don't feel alive, I hope at least you get to enjoy the simple things from time to time.

You have embraced your negative side and accept it. Which is fantastic. Now the next challenge is to face and accept the positive in yourself. This means treating yourself with compassion and kindness. Doing this is not weakness but strength.

That's great that you get out and about, but has little to do with the main challenge at hand.

Little things get boring over time. If only the 'little things' matter, you might as well give up your freedom and go live in a prison. Everyone (including me) wants to achieve something important, it's only natural.

I often hear a lot of people say: ''the best things in life are free.'' Well, no. The best things in life are actually very expensive.

Oh I do accept the positivity in myself and welcome it. But the problem is that it seems to be irrelevant, because it's not like my life would suddenly make a 180 degree turn if I were to do as you suggested. Only if things improve for myself and I'm finally able to 'move on' may I have the inclination to love myself more. But that's not going to happen anytime soon as long as things stay the way they are for me.

It's about the level of your feelings that Matter. Big things Or expensive things feel as good as you are able To feel.

You say everyone strives for doing something important. Wellz for me, what i view as important, is the Job i'm doing, that i love my friends, that i love my everyday Boring life. Its huge!

The big things only Last a moment.

I suppose it works differently for everyone. I also like my job and my friends, but seeing the same people every time gets on my nerves and starts to become annoying. I don't like to linger in one place and remain stuck there for a lifetime, that would drive me into insanity. Rather, I want to move on and experience life in it's fullest because I only live once. I don't believe in the concept of past lives and reincarnation. For me there's a deadline. If I don't complete it now and soon, it will be impossible to ever try again.

Tuesday 25-05-2019 10:54 AM

Setting goals is not a bad thing. Not Being able To appreciate the things on your life is something Else.

Dargor 25-05-2019 11:36 AM

Yea, tell that to a mentally or physically disabled person to value the little things they have while never being able to live an ordinary life. There are cases when it would've been better if you were never born.

Tuesday 25-05-2019 11:42 AM

'Thanks. I' ll Tell it To myself.

I can understand what you mean, but how many times in your life have you successfully achieved something big, but it all felt anti-climatic? Successful people end up unhappy all the time. I believe strongly in aspiring to greater things, but maybe there is something true in the cliche, it's not just the destination, it's the journey.

I can't answer that question because I haven't really achieved anything big and/or special, even though I try.

The reason succesful people end up ''unhappy'' is because most of those people are weak minded. Of course, someone who had every blessing imaginable coming to them without ever having truly suffered is likely to whine and complain about irrelevant things while they have no reason to complain at all. Those kind are the ones you should tell to 'count their blessings', but not to those who are of poorer status in life.

What do you personally think are your positives?

I see little positivity in your words on this forum. I sense, like I said before, rock solid underneath, honesty and truthfulness. You will flourish once you embrace the goodness. You will achieve what you want to if you are able to do this. Things won't be handed to you on a silver platter if you don't put the work in to being a fully rounded man.

Well I don't know what your personal measure of achievement is. I am sure you've done one thing in your life that your proud of.

Or they wake up and realize they're living a lie, or they've lost so much of who they were in life chasing success. Or they've been so worn down by the constant struggles, they just want to retreat. Or maybe they never learned to cope with success. Besides can you be mentally strong in every situation?

Makes no difference to me who they are, or what they've live? Some concepts are universal.

Barbeques with friends and family. ....being out in the woods.......making passionate love to a beautiful woman. ......drawing my bow on a big deer.........laying on a tropical beach. ........surfing and feeling that magical moment when I go from arm power to riding the power of the ocean. ....loading up my Cessna and being "downbound" for the little latitudes for a long weekend with my family.....and who doesn't enjoy a little snark once in a while?

By the way "edithaint" .......I find post both interesting and commonsensicle and have decided to add you to my buddy list.........have a great day!

Not that I crave for your or anyone's pity, but I really can't think of anything I'm proud of. I have two nice jobs but it's not like I've done anything special to get them. I've greatly expanded my social life in a few years, but that's only because I go out a lot in order to avoid my boring useless life at home with my father (and it's not like I made many new friends anyway). If I am supposed to have spawns and be proud of that like literally everyone else around me seems to be, then you can say hell to the no because that's not gonna happen.

I have yet to meet such people. But whatever, let's just agree to disagree since clearly our perspectives and experiences on life are different. You are seeing a six, and I see a nine.

No problem. I enjoy your perspectives even if I may not agree with them. Who knows, I might be wrong about some things. Hopefully we can still be friends. I hope you have a great day. :hug3:
