That is how it comes across to me.

Adam is an actual person. He is in Heaven now.

Where's Eve, is She in Hell because She tempted Him to be naughty :D

Which parts do people think are symbolic or figurative, and why?

She is not in Hell. Hell is not 'found' in the Bible unless a person is looking at a translation that mistranslates it so that it appears that Hell does exist.

adam and eve were perhaps twin souls that reunited into one "sexless" soul in heaven

I didn't know:
The fruit has commonly been represented as an apple due to wordplay of the Latin word for apple, malus, which can mean both "evil" and "apple". The Bible does not specify a fruit, but locates it as being at the very center of The Garden of Eden.

It obviously is a metaphor, and much older than the bible suggests.
As far as I know it know it was mentioned in the Sumerian texts.

What does the Bible suggest? I don't recall it said Genesis was some thousands of years ago, though there are believers with a biased Bible-centric world view that 'calculate' it back to 6k years ago.
