How can I contact my spirit guide?

I have only recently become interested in spirit guides and am wondering how do I meet him/her? Over the years I've had random psychics come up to me and tell me that I have many spirits around me, could they be spirit guides? How many guides can one person have?

How do I know the difference between who or what my guide is and what I want them to be?

Is the best way to really meet your guide(s) through AP?

I did Google a few sites but I don't feel like I've gotten any good answers.

I'm really looking to start communicating with my guide and find out what my true purpose is. Please, any help, insight, or advice is welcome.

There are many different ways, it involves expanding your states of awareness and establishing connections. I also wish to connect with my angels and guides, have wanted to for a very long time.
