God is not happiness, happiness is a label that we apply to what we believe to be God, its true that when we live in the realization that god is living us, we do feel a feeling of happiness, but again that's secondary to what IS. What we call Spirit is just a package of what we call the mind body organism, and what animates within and through that package we call Spirit, when the package so call dies, what we called Spirit is now called Consciousness, or God. Happiness and sorrow are only what arises from Consciousness through the mind body organism, because we as the mind body believe that we are separate from the Source, we label these emotions that arise from the mind body as sorrow or happiness, because of the power of the illusion of being the mind body, these emotions are very hard to see for what they are, just emotions arising.

I used to be a chocoholic. I could sit in front of a giant jar of nutella and mow down, kill off the whole thing in one sitting. no lie. and get sick as a dog. but i didnt appreciate it.

now there was a time in my life, were i was in training with a group of warriors and we couldnt have any sweets except once a week. and it was a single cough drop.

friend,at that point in my life i had never savored, nor appreciated in full, what sweetness and satisfaction meant.

we ride the waves of pain and sorrow, in an infinite variety of ways, so we may know and appreciate more fully the peace that is ours.

and in that knowing and that appreciation, in the end, every man women and child in this life or the next, puts aside what is unreal for what is real.

It is in the final stanza that very suffering that propels us to seek our freedom. Like the great prince, who knowing this gave up his riches to seek an end to it.

In the end, it turns out

suffering is grace

We toyed with the idea of pain before we had developed an understanding of the creative power of our will, our mind. We created the pain and it has taken on a life of its own (fed by our fears of it), a downward drag of energy much like the gravity of earth. The Godhead is elevated above this dimension of chaos that has resulted from our thoughts and our ego-struggle. The creator is not responsible for our mistakes. We are.
Our next step is to learn how to uncreate what we have done.
If we will ask God, and not presume to know the answer to this riddle, the way out of this mess will surely be forthcoming.
