So they don't look too deep.

You've got to walk down the sidewalk in the park and feel
The life in the air without staring to hard
Then you go to work or work hard over
an instrument or a piece of paper

You don't cram every second with useless noise
Or act like all that struggle and releaseand love
Isn't going on just one or two apartments or blocks away


And most importantly, before I go to sleep
I always shout at the starlit, dark sky
Filled with light pollution and smog
Hoping one day an echo will come back
From one of those pinpricks of light

One day I will be free
I will have forgotten the chafe
Of manacles around my wrists

Wrists and hands
That were broken, a long time ago
So that they couldn't make fists
But could only give or receive gifts

I will have forgotten
The marks upon my skin
I will have forgotten
Isolation, Hopelessness, and Black Misery.

So that small struggles
Will once more seem big
And on that day I will cry
Tears of joy, in thanks
For the gift of a smaller perspective
And much needed rest.

Oftentimes, when it rains
The clouds are grey and heavy
The chill is bitter
The sunlight is hazy

You can't help but feel
Dragged low
And all alone
In it

But sometimes, once every
Few years, or so
There is a rain
In winter

With light gray clouds that
Float in a blue sky
where the sun is out
Warming your skin

The rain falls down, cool
Like little kisses
On your skin

It makes you remember
That you are loved
And that your love
Is a prize.

I've wrote so many words
Left on papers in all the journals
I ever owned

I've lost track
Of where they lie
But I know they're still around here

The words I used to write
All hang heavy on me
Every poem was both
A release and a burden
I had given a piece of me
To the world

I want to let every journal
Float away on the waves
Of the ocean
So the ink seeps from the page

And mother earth,
The spirit of the sea
Will help to carry the burden
I am yet to young to understand

There is no burden heavier
Or more worthy than a heart
That beats for others,
and yourself.
Thank you for helping me carry
It.

Each moment I am born,
And each moment I die.
Thoughts enter and thoughts release
I do not grasp.

A new moment
How wonderful
What used to seem smoke and ash
With each feeling that passed
Now I see how joy lasts
With each second
Seeing as if through glass

I remember looking back always
I am afraid not to please
As if backwards inside myself
I just could not see

The spring days of youth
Are passing by
And the summer of my life
Is just begun

I wonder if I will
Find the way to brightly shine
Upon my own wounds
As I grow

It is not enough
To let go
We must hold our dear friend,
suffering,
In an embrace of light
that glows.

Only then do I see
Things are not so bad
And find a requiem
For my many dreams
