Being called a white butterfly

I had a dream where I receive a postcard from a past crush of mine and he had written that during the time I loved him , he secretly loved me too. But he said he is unable to come to me right now but he will love me one day in future. At the end he had called me "you are a (female) butterfly to me , so white". What does this mean?
