Things to keep in mind:

1) we are all going to die, no one is immortal.

2) because we are all going to die one day there is no sense in prolonging our life; I really have no desire to be a senile old man in diapers. I would much rather die around the age of fifty; I am a man of my words, I smoke cigarettes profusely daily, drink three times a week, eat good unhealthy food, and if I maintain a good appearance it is not to prolong my life but just to look presentable to others and generally enjoy life. (I can post pics to show you I am not obese)

3) because we are all going to die one day, we are all guaranteed to have a spiritual experience at the end of life. There is no reason to have one before that time.

I hope this helps

Its interesting because as someone living with a lifestyle like yourself, it would make sense that you might see fasting as suffering, but then perhaps your lifestyle hasn't taught you what suffering is about in relation to the physical body and how some things can change and shift the future with life style changes. Not saying that your lifestyle will necessarily create this, but I think sometimes we can be a little naive in not realizing that life sometimes calls us in ways where death itself cannot save us from life, life itself saves us from a death we are not ready for.

I have done it a few times. The last time I did it was for 18 days. It definitely changes one's perspective. The first 5 days are the hardest. After that it all evens out. You will get weaker, lack stamina and occasionally you get euphoric. 18 days was probably a bit too much - but I just sort of got into a groove and it was all good.

Just speaking from a non spiritual point of view. I'm a nutritionist and this is not a good idea. You will put unnecessary strain on you organs. Our bodies are amazing things, and with the right nutrition the body has the ability to detox itself.

If you want to detox, may I suggest simply cutting out all junk food and increasing fibre in your diet. Drink lots of water and eat heaps of vegetables.
