To me there is a HUGE difference between the two. I realise that I am unbalanced in that respect. But I never saw the two as being the same thing/being.

Not exactly. The dog/master analogy only holds true in some respects.
God is US in my opinion. We are who He became. Which is why we still need Him. Because that is WHO we are. Just smaller - for the time being.

I don't understand the question (to be honest) but with regard to "who is best?" why do you feel you have to choose?
