Neurobiologists Provide a Fresh Area of Research
"Human memories are too vast to be stored in our brains, instead they are stored in vast magnetic fields."
This is the hypothesis of Dr Michael A. Person of Laurentian University, Ontario in his papers entitled:
"On the Possible Representation of the Electro-magnetic equivalent of All Human Memory within the Earth's Magnetic Field" and:
"Billions of Human Brains Immersed Within a Shared Geomagnetic Field: Quantitative Solutions and Implications for Future Adaptations."
His idea is that human memories continue to exist in the Earth's magnetic field after the person who experienced them has been separated from them:
"Access to this information by the appropriate technology might allow a person's individual memories, which are lost following brain damage or due to neuro-degenerative disorders (or I might add, death - Untersberg), to be reconstituted."
If "a person" is a personality reborn as a continuation of a particular previous life, his/her memories would be in a sense "copyright" and this might explain how some of us with "appropriate mind functions" can have some degree of recall of a previous life.
A number of other neurobiologists in Spain and the United States have written papaers supporting and enlarging upon Dr. Persing's hypothesis.

That doesn't really explain how people forget, then, or that why people with neurodegenerative diseases have memories that come and go.
The interesting side is how this ties in with the "social brain".
An intriguing idea and hope they can flesh it out a bit. Problem is going to be how they test the hypothesis.
It sounds a little like telepathy - extremely difficult to test under current scientific method.
