want to learn to meditate

Hi everyone,
I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I want to learn how to meditate as I have never done it before but have heard from many people that it has been quite beneficial for them. I am hoping someone knows of a book or website or can give me a few pointers to get me started.

Hi Sweetgrl74,

Daisy's advice is excellent in more ways than one. There are many ways to meditate, the trick is to find what works for you. I am not an expert, but all I do is this - sit or lie in a quiet spot, close my eyes and look into my third eye which is the spot in the middle of your forehead - it may be a little uncomfortable at first until you get used to it. Count backwards from 100 to 1 (if you are just starting) and allow your mind to clear. Recognise any thoughts that come through your mind and let them go - don't scold yourself over this, it takes time to learn to get your mind to be quiet. After a while you should start to 'see' swirls or colours as you continue looking into your third eye - you may see more. Make sure when you feel the meditation is over that you count back up from 1 to 20, just to get yourself back into alignment. Others recommend you 'ground' yourself before you begin - this can simply be imagining yourself with roots connecting you to the floor or ground. You may even do your meditation in the bath if you feel comfortable with that - because water is very grounding.

Hopefully this can give you a starting point. All I can say is continue researching and finding info to work out what is best for you. Whatever you choose to do make sure you go into it without expectations. Allow your meditation to unfold as it needs to without you worrying whether it is right or wrong.

Take care.

Hello everyone!

For me, the best results came when I understood what I was I wanted to achieve in meditation.

For example....
If you sit down with the intent of feeling loving and relaxed when the meditation finishes, then you always know what to try and concentrate on if the mind should wonder!

Love and light to all,

AM
