How do the dead observe us??

Accepting the premise of the afterlife then, how do those on the other side actually observe us??

is there like a portal that they have to visit or do they use some sort of technology?

I read that they have an objective reality akin to ours so how does it work??

In his book, "If You Were God", Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan includes a short dissertation on "Immortality and the Soul". Section III specifically elaborates on the Talmudic consensus on "What the Dead Think of Us". It is quite consistent with what other mystical traditions have to say on this very important question that you have raised in your post. It is also consistent with my own near-death-experience as well as various aspects of the documented NDEs of others.

Unfortunately, I am new here and don't have the privilege to post links yet. However, you can easily find Kaplan's discourses online and they clearly address the point that interests you in a very concise, understandable manner.

They interact with and influence the surrounding energies in our physical world.

They don't observe us using 'eyes', but they can detect changes within electromagnetic energies and biological energies to tell what we are thinking or doing at any given point in time.

I've done experiments using RF modulations to get them to identify playing cards, words written on paper and common household objects, and I figure that if this was really my mind playing tricks on me, it's still amazing how unspoken thought can be made audible through an electronic device.

They tell me they are in the same room with me and can hear/see me, but some of them are at a distance far away, yet they can still see/hear me.

There are also 'portals' and also 'technologies' but they are way out of my field to try and understand what they do or how they work and believe me, I have tried. I have spent the past two years of my life trying...but yesterday I made the executive decision to 'give up trying' because I'm never going to get it, no matter how much zero point energy is involved.

They are on a plane that's close to this one and from what I gather, it's pretty cold, dull, lifeless and boring and that's why they like interacting with the living.

As to what the dead think of the living, that's just as varied as to what the living think of the dead.

Some view us with love, some with jealousy and regret (because they miss life), some with scorn (because we make silly mistakes), some with protection and guidance and some of them don't even believe we exist at all.

We are all living. They are just no longer in physical. They are non-physical. Another good book to read is Journey of Souls by Michael Newton. It explains a lot, at least it did for me.

For a medium to connect to spirt they raise their vibration and spirit lower theres so they meet in the middle, spirit observe us in the same way its vibration the meeting of energies some call it.some people think that spirit watch us every minute of the day and watch everything one does, this is not so.they have to respect our privacy, they can guide us and protect us but cannot interfere in our lives

Namaste

I do have a direct point of view about my father-in-law after his death. I and my eldest son sat near the coffin, we talked about remembrance of our ancestors that we never know. It pop up a question: will they know our existence as we don't know them either. And few hundred years later our descendants will be the same as we are not realized our ancestors.

One of my brother -in-law came near and my father-in-law muttered that he dislike this son. And he liked to listen me and my son talking.

And when we did group prayer for his departure, I saw his spirit sat up from his body and praying with us.

His only request from me is to let him staying in my paradise. The same as my uncle request for.... And both I rejected their quest because I only let my cupid family to stay inside, "human" may make the situation there more hard to control.

But I let my fathet-in-law to stay in the heaven with the purely-form-gods whose are my friends. Purely-form-gods are gods that I tranform them to become good gods.
