Let me use an example. My son messaged me a few months ago to say his girlfriend was a bit upset that I had been liking my other son's girlfriend's posts but not so much hers. I was gobsmacked, hadn't noticed there to be a difference (Facebook woes!). I pointed out to him that that said more about his girlfriend than it did about me. I had to gently explain that it was more about her self-esteem than it was about the amount of times I 'liked' another post. Why was she so worried, I asked.

He didn't get it either, not at first.

Other people trigger within us a range of different emotions. This has NOTHING to do with them, but how we perceive ourselves.

So - frustration at unrequited attraction sheds light on how we perceive ourselves as not worthy of that affection. Then we work on ourselves to love ourselves first - and pretty soon you come to realise that it doesn't matter what that other person feels because you don't need them.

You will realise that how you love and accept yourself is the most important thing ever.

In an attempt to clear up this confusion over 'is it a connection or not' and your original question of 'what kind of connection is it':
a) What a 'connection' is means different things to different people (that is obvious from reading the responses here). Each to their own.
b) Do not overthink 'what kind of connection' it is. It doesn't matter. And you will drive yourself to distraction trying to figure it out. Ultimately terms such as 'twin flame, soul connection, soul mate etc (in fact - anything!) are all socially constructed terms people have come up with in an attempt to understand the world around them. Whatever it is you are feeling - it just is what it is. No-one else can tell you otherwise.
