disappearing bugs?

It seems to me that you were seeing playful Nature Spirits shapeshifting as insects and then dissapearing -- Maybe for some reason the timing was right and the veil was thin enough at that particular time for you to be able to see them. When you are young , you can see more of these kinds of things as well.

The fact that you were camping and probably near woodlands or Nature makes me also think it could be Nature spirits as well. They do tend to take any form they choose to- insects being one of them.

How big were the bugs? If they were really small maybe the lighting of the
area was made in a way that you could only see them when they weren't
in the air. And if they were really tiny it would be hard to see them if they were moving.

If you make sure every mundane reason for the occurence is cancelled out.

(Maybe do research on the insects of that area.)

If it is metaphysical than perhaps they were spawning Energy Parasites on their first journey from the physical state of existence to the spiritual. *Shrugs*

Boldylock's theory sounds reasonable as well.

I shrug because I can't be sure of your experience. I was not there, so I am only suggesting possibilities.

It's only a negative thing if you see it as being negative.
