Is dissolving karma connected to how they view themselves? Absolutely.
No self = no karma.

Therefore, dissolve self = dissolve karma.

Just my opinion
Spiritlite.
I agree totally with you on this Spiritlite, once we Realize that we ain't this mind body that most believe they are, then we are no longer under the so called karmic law, things still happen but not to who you truly are.

I think no one exactly knows what Karma is, cause no one knows where does it exactly begins.

No self = no karma.

Therefore, dissolve self = dissolve karma.

As far as I see it there are different types of karma, one is thought karma, another is body karma and it can all cause diseases in your body.

A person with much body karma has a very stiff body and can not bend his legs easily into double Lotus like the monks do.

A person with alot of thought karma has a lot of bad thoughts.

All karma is eliminated by suffering mental and physical discomfort, there is no shortcut. When you eliminate karma it is immediately transformed into virtue.

But if your Master is powerful he can eliminate the root causes of your diseases and a portion of your karma. But you will need to eliminate a portion of your karma by suffering losses(ie taking losses in conflicts without striking back etc). Remember karma is caused by your own past actions, you must pay back your debts.

This logics is explained in Falun Dafa cultivation which belongs to the Buddha school QiGong but still has no relation to Buddhism.

He who looses will gain, that is the rule in this universe as I understand it, hence one must suffer losses to become enlightened.

Just my two cents at my wisdom level, no truth offered whatsoever.

I havent' read Gauss's above post yet...but I would agree in that once we have that realisation, then we are transmuting karma.

Things operate differently because you are turning lead to gold, so to speak. You are aware that you are co-creating this reality, and you have the capacity and will to co-create with right action, or for the good. I sort of think of this as tuning the collective (reality) harmonics .

Things still happen, but not to who you truly are. That's a beautiful thing to realise, isn't it?

peace & blessings,

Ok...I just read Gauss' post...I feel that there is definitely some truth in what he says...as Thicht Nhat Hahn says, suffering is the root of compassion, of being fully human...and really it's the accepting and giving back or, lemons to lemonaid that does it, LOL....

I have done a lot of taking stuff without striking back, LOL...so I hope I have transmuted some karma and I do feel that I have ....

peace,
7L

My pleasure Toolite !

There can be a lot of muddled thinking about Buddhism on the internet because sometimes people mix other beliefs and ideas in with the core teachings, so that they eventually become something else completely. This in turn can cause beginners to get very confused.

I recommend you have a look at the Buddhist Studies section at Buddhanet in order to further understand the basics.

A couple of things that I have been told by my spiritual teacher.
1. Karma (its not really Karma but that best describes it in our terms) can build up over many life experiences.

2. We can only work on Karma where it is created. Karma can only be changed in the plane it was experienced in. We create negative Karma here in the physaical reality and then pass to the nonphysical. Nothing can be done about it until you return to the physical reality. Hence, one of the reasons for reincarnation.
