Vitamin B and Emotional Health

I recently began taking super B-complex vitamins. Within two days of taking the vitamins, my energy has gone through the roof! I have not felt this energy in years. My mind is clear and sharp. I am more confident. The anxiety and depression that I had been experiencing for years is completely gone.

What is it about vitamin B in its various forms that positively affects emotions? Is it primarily vitamin B-12 that is doing the work? I'd love to know more about this.

They call it "B-complex" for a reason. The B vitamins work together in the body, and support many functions along with the nervous system. In the modern Western diet of processed foods B vitamins are often deficient.

B12 plays a important role throughout the body and has a very complex process of assimilation which can break down at various points. More people have B12 deficiency than most people, even doctors, realize.

I know about this because I have this condition and give myself B12 injections twice a month. (And no, Robert, I'm not vegetarian.)

Yes that's interesting, most meat eaters don't need B12, its stored in the liver, if you do have a lack of B12, then your liver isn't up to what it should be.

Actually, Robert, it's a more complex process than that.

Pernicious anemia is much more widespread than is generally recognized and so can be the cause of a variety misdiagnosed health issues, including psychological problems. The liver usually has nothing to do with it as it's an issue of assimilation in the small intestine.

For anyone interested in pursuing this further there's an excellent book written by medical professionals called "Could It Be B12?: A epidemic of misdiagnoses"

Yes your probably right, but myself I can only go on what I have come across in my own experience as a natural therapist.

I understand that's your perspective, Robert. I was diagnosed with this form of anemia 4 years ago and made it my business to learn all I could about it.

Yes but that's your body, but everyone is different, there is the hormonal system and everything else that needs to work in harmony, it is not strait forward, a lot of test needs to be done.

Yes... pernicious anemia has to be laboratory tested.

The op was asking if B vitamins can affect one's emotional state, and they can. B12 deficiency is one way.
