Lying spirits?
In my AP last night, a spirit told me I was sent to him because he had the same name of someone I was looking for.
That is plausible, but the person I was searching for has a unique name and I'm not sure if there ever was anyone who shares the same name.
I can be too trusting sometimes and naïve, which I've been warned makes me vulnerable. This trait of mine can be "visible" to manipulators in the physical world... I wonder if I appear this way in the astral plane as well.
Do spirits lie? What can I do to protect myself?

Spirits are just like people. Some people lie and some people do not lie. It can come from your mind. You need to have a clear mind. One time I ap and someone said something stupid and did something stupid. Later on I realised that came from me. I was thinking something stupid. I am not saying that is what happened to you. I am just mentioning all possibilities.

I had a clear mind last night. :)
Sorry, I should have phrased my question as "Do some spirits lie?"
This spirit had friends around him and he seemed to like conversation. He asked me why I was looking for the spirit I was trying to contact and I explained that I just wanted to talk with him. It wasn't a bad experience at all, just strange because the spirit I encountered claimed to have the same name. He may have said that just to talk to me or something... not really sure...

Yes! In your case I wouldn't know how to tell if he is lying. But few days back, I was about to get back in my body when I heard some ringing. I waited a few second because I felt like the "ringing" was trying to communicate and then heard a voice tell me to listen to the "ringing" because it was my spirit guide trying to talk to me. I waited and tried to listen and suddenly found myself being attacked by negative entities. They totally lied and tricked me. My full story is posted in this forum with the title "Scary. I swear this wasn't a dream. Have you experienced anything similar?" if you feel like reading. Good luck with those lying jerks and sorry you didn't find your friend.

First off I'd like to mention that every being you encounter during a projection isn't necessarily a "spirit." Astral projection takes us into a myriad of dimensions and not all of them are filled with the "souls" of deceased-beings and so forth. A lot of the dimensions we experience in projections have beings living impermanent lives similar to the way we live in the physical dimension, although each dimension tends to have different governing fundamentals and laws. But yes the beings you experience in dreams and projections are more than capable of lying, in fact their lies are capable of being much more in-depth and believable than those in the physical dimension. Because they are capable of giving off certain "energies" or "feelings" that would make a lie that much more believable and they are capable of taking nearly any form they desire which of course in many cases makes the lies more believable as well. At this point I have pretty much taken the approach of not accepting anything I am told in a dream or projection as absolute truth, because the potential to be deceived in a dream or projection is unimaginable. Some people have unfortunately convinced themselves that they will be able to tell the truth at the end of the day, but my experience has shown me that is far from true. It is quite easy for these beings to deceive us verbally, physically, energetically, etc.
