Was watching some of the funeral mass which was really nice. The priest
spoke about Bob Dylan etc. lol. Anyway I wouldn't mind watching the whole
of that mass but doesn't seem to be on their website yet, hope it was recorded.

Hi Joe, and I'm sure it will be.
And what did I say about a few CDs in stockings this year ?
Hubby bought his mum ( she's from Ireland) a best of as a little extra cos he was talking about Shane to her and she knew more about him than my husband did !
He was very well thought of .

That's nice fair play to him. It's gas the way some 'elderly' folks are well
in touch with the rock stars lol. The stories are coming out now of how good of
a person he really was, he was well behaved and very decent apparently even to strangers on the street. I think it was Johnny Depp said he went around
with a roll of money in his pocket and he would peel off a note or two and hand it to beggars on the street etc. Even besides that he had a good soul.
There is a lesson in there somewhere for the world. Yep hopefully its recorded !

This is beautiful Joe.
Such a tribute.
And for anyone that thinks Shane was the "booze" they could not be more wrong.
As you rightly say .
He was the soul.

Definitely

The words seem poignant as if they were especially written for Shane.
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all
And of course The Fairytale of New York from the Altar lol

Yes indeed Joe, very poignant and fitting lyrics.
And seeing fairytale of new York again at his funeral , but the full version is still very moving and fitting.
I've sent it to my husband at work !
Anyway, turns out ( and I never knew) that he's got the original vinyl LP called "If I should fall from grace with God " by them.
It's got fairytale of new York on it , so we'll be blasting it out over Christmas no doubt .

I think to stay in the same vein and get in the festive mood is Bob Dylan's "Must be Santa"...
Utterly Bonkers but disturbingly brilliant !!!!

The video is a mix of so many things. But in particular it reminds me very much of some of his artwork ( and yes I own one !! Statue of liberty!)....
I've just seen a 7 inch vinyl of "fairytale of new York " is to be released for charity.
That's a lovely thing to do.

In the 60s living in London went regularly to the Troubador folk club venue in basement below cafe. The Dubliners were often performing and "The parting glass" with Barney MacKenna (sp?) doing gravel voiced vocal lead a favourite sing along. Yep--fitting lyrics as obituary--not just for Shane RIP but I guess for many of us wanderers and wonderers. RIP also to an old mate of mine Tommy Collins ,banjo and fiddle , cast from similar mould. Cheers all. X
