When I was 15 years old, I was experimenting with crystal magic one autumn afternoon. I had a set of three crystal balls that I bought at a local occult shop, and I decided to try a bit of magic with them. Just for kicks I said in the Elvish language as "created" by J.R.R. Tolkien: "Edro Vana Mellon!" which translates into English as "Open Beautiful Friend!" and suddenly a shaft of light entered my room through a window and hit one of the crystals, causing rainbow patterns to spread all across the walls of my room. I heard a female voice say to me suddenly: "My firstborn son, thank you for calling me." And when I asked her to tell me who she was, she said: "Sophia, though some call me Wisdom!". Then suddenly the sky outside grew overcast and the whole spell was broken. I have since learned who Sophia is... a powerful and vastly ancient goddess of the universe. And that I was indeed her firstborn son in my first incarnation. But I never forgot that single magical moment when speaking Tolkien's Elivsh made real magic. On a similarly related note:
I wonder why Elvish has such power? I suspect one of two reasons: either Tolkien was, without his own knowledge, in touch with "something" when he "created" his Elvish... or people's strong love for Tolkien's works and the world of Middle Earth that he created have given Elvish the power is holds. Has anyone else ever noticed special properties to Elvish in regard to crystals? I find it ironic that in Tolkien's novels, the Phial of Galadriel was a crystal empowered by speaking Elvish (the name of Elbereth, in fact). I do think Tolkien was unconsciously on to something, spiritually speaking. Way too coincidental to be a coincidence, in my humble opinion!
