Wink Veganism aiding in spiritual growth?

Have any of you noticed/ felt a change in your awareness and/or spiritual abilities after converting to veganism? I had more spiritual experiences when I was younger in which I happened to be vegan. I've read a number of books suggesting you convert to vegetarianism or veganism, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Spiritual "abilities"? No, but I do feel much healthier, which makes me happier in the world, which is my definition of what it means to be spiritual. I'm down to just vegetables and fruit now, my body feels very light and content. That adds to that same feeling for me. When I was eating meat and processed food I always felt heavy and sluggish and blah.

No greater 'abilities' but then I'm not surprised because my personality leads heavily towards the analytical and pragmatic. I'm too organized and love lists to keep my brain on track.

However, I think being a vegan is still part of my spirituality as it is a demonstration of the connection that I think that all of life and indeed even the very planet and universe have with one another. It is like a circle of Love and always brings me to the question, 'how could I hurt myself?' with the answer ever being, 'I could never hurt myself therefore I cannot hurt them because we are one'.

Baile has put my experiences over the past quite clearly.

Today, being slightly drunk, I am twisted between getting food outdoors and making it myself.

I am thorn between grains and beans.
My current conscious goes between this:

grains is for earth
beans is for space

Grains are easily available in the supermarket and feed the masses.
Beans have to be prepared by myself. They stabilize the blood sugar level and thus reduce the hunger feeling.
So beans make it easier to attune to space.

Hail to everyone who reads this.

Funny co-inkydink in that two days ago I sprouted some grains and planted them in my yard, to see how they grow. I have an acre of land, and my goal by 2018 is to be growing all my food for the year. If I accomplish that, I will never have to go to the grocery store again! BTW, I'm not really interested in grains as a food as I do well without them in my diet. I'm just curious how they'll grow, plus I'm looking for a replacement for the lawn in front of my house.

Growing your own food is as close to the source as you can get. But I don't think it's all that easy to do. Very interesting though.
I bake my own bread that's the closest I come to the source. I could move one step more by grinding my own grain with a home grinder/mill. But that's still a bit too much for me.

I hope you succeed. Good luck!!

Thanks, like I said it's my dream. But I keep my diet extremely simple. I eat a specific and select few vegetables, and I eat very little. I have the space to grow my entire year's vegetable intake on my property. I would be able to freeze what I need for the year. So it's not something improbable. It's something very doable.

Fruit is the one thing I would have to buy still. I have one apple tree, which isn't enough. So I'm looking to plant more trees right now.

I have just tried to argue the case on another thread that basic compassion in a cruelty free diet is the basis for Spirituality, there does not seem to be much support on the spiritual development forum for this argument. I however know right from wrong. To eat once suffering slaughtered animals can never be good. I think you will feel more positive in yourself. I wish you well with it.

I'm a vegan and I believe it can because of the health aspect.

My problem is that I've tried in the past to be an animal rights activist, and I always struggle with the pain of what the animals are going through. I feel a lot of that negative energy, created by all the non vegans of the world because of their choices to eat foods that came from suffering animals.

I think eating a healthy vegan diet can aid in spiritual growth, but if one is highly conscious of the suffering in the world it can feel like you're living in a hellish world and make spiritual growth a real challenge, even if your doing your best to not contribute to that suffering yourself.
