fruits of the holy ghost

Do you accept the gifts from the holy ghost, is there a time limit? have you been offered gifts? did you accept?
Jesus went in to the desert and was asked if he wanted to be a king.
I recently watched a you tube video of a Buddhist monk from the Australian Buddhist centre who said he was also asked if he wanted to be king, In reply he said ah I know you, you are so and so the devil, well he's not the devil really he's just a bit naughty. the monk was then asked if he wanted to teach. which of course he does today.

to rule
to teach
wisdom
knowledge ( search for the truth)
celibacy
scribe
admin
miracles
speaking in tongues (no longer given)

I was offered
to rule
to teach
celibacy
mother
knowledge
and geology ?

nope nope and nope still its amazing and wierd

however I read that gifts are bestowed rather than offered and people who have qualities will find them magnified.
and if a gift is bestowed then there is no choice. so I guess who is offering
and not bestowing? Also that gifts can be temporary. I ask as I can't find many answers about this on the internet
