Hindu Mythology and the creation of the universe
Hi,
I am currently working on a Hypothesis regarding morphic fields (Rupert Sheldrake).
There I came accross Hindu-Mythology where I think that some parts of it describe the creation of the universe by lord Vishnu.
Since I am not an expert in Hindu-Mythology, I don´t know if my interpretation is correct.
I would be very glad if somebody can help me and take a look at my interpretations.
best regards,

There are different creation stories so just focus on the most important one to you as you relate it to 'morphic fields'.

What about the god: ´Surya´.
He is depicted with 7 horses and a chariot with its driver.
Can this be seen as our soul with the 7 chakras, whereas the chariot-driver is the intellect ?

It can be seen any way you want to see it, but yes that's one interpretation. Although I'm a Hindu, I'm definitely not up on creation myths. In many Hindu schools, creation is just an extension of God himself. It's not like he molded anything from something that was different from him.
Good luck on your quest.

The best way is, that I describe in a few words how I understand ´creation of the cosmos´.
Lord Vishnu created the cosmos.
After creation Vishnu fell asleep (see Budhanilkanta).
When he breathes, the cosmos is expanding. The breath of vishnu is probably called ´dark energy´ by modern science.
The centre of our galaxy is describing the ´Vishnu-Nabhi´ whereas Brahma (the creator) gets born.
I assume that the ´Brahma-Nabhi´ is either the axis of the earth or the earth´s core, where ´Kurma´ the turtle lies within.
Rahu-Ketu are the 2 moon-nodes which use ´Vasuki´ (Kundalini of earth) to create life-forms out of ´Kurma´.
´Samudra manthan´ the ´Churning of the Ocean of Milk´ stands for our galaxy the milky-way, where the story of ´Samudra manthan´ takes place.
Hope this can be seen like this.

Yes, that works for the Vaishnava sect. Not sure about other Hindus.

Here is an verse from the ancient Rig Veda...
In the beginning
There was neither existence nor non-existence,
All this world was unmanifest energy...
The One breathed, without breath, by Its own power
Nothing else was there...
-- Hymn of Creation, The Rig Veda
That One which came to be, enclosed in nothing,
arose at last, born of the power of heat.
-- Nasadiya Sukta
Perhaps this may be the state at the time of the Big Bang, which was at a time of tremondous heat due to explosion.
An interesting link on Hindu religious interpretation of the Big Bang...

It is said that surya´s chariot has 12 wheels.
At the beginning I thought that these are the 12 months a year but
I found out that in india different calendars are used. Calendars which are not fixed to the vernal equinox, like the gregorian calendar.
I see 3 possibilities,
Do these 12 aditiyas refer to:
The 12 postures of surya namaskar,
the 12 houses in vedic astrolgy or
the 12 hours a day ?
best regards,
