I've been a member of a few churches and basically the experience was spiritual and uplifting. They were focused on the here and now because they were experiencing their religion in the heart and it was part of everyday life. The media and pop culture gives this picture of Christianity that it's all about judgment, hell, doctrine and dogma.. but from what I've seen, it's very spiritual and positive for a lot of people. It's not any less spiritual than New Age or any other religion imo.
There was an interesting study that showed Christians were the happiest people in Europe. I believe it, some of the happiest people I've known were Christians.
