Ayurveda and Seasonal depression

Hi All,

Thanks for a great forum!

I have recently been suffering from seasonal depression, and I found some great info about Ayurveda and seasonal affective disorder that I wanted to share. I feel so much better after trying some of their tips, and I hope it helps you too, if you are also suffering.

I was reading your blog, nice.I agree with a lot of the tips.

I live in seasonal state where we have very harsh winters. When your stuck in doors for days with minimal sunlight and mobility, depression can definitely set in.I have found Citrus scents help me the most ( lemon and orange) especially citrus body wash gels. It definitely livens up the senses. I love white and blue pastels colors in a home too. My home is painted with white and robin blue walls, the blue reminds me of robin eggs in the spring.

My aunt suffers from seasonal affective disorder. All she feels like doing is sleeping on those dark grey days in winter.
I agree with Clover, that citrus scents are gently enlivening. Although I don't exactly get S.A.D. and usually go out in all weather, and don't mind the long dark evenings, I have a mandarin and grapefruit body wash, and it does have a positive effect on me on those dark rainy mornings! There really is a 'zing' to it!

If I am missing the sunshine, I look at sunny videos! Or beautiful sunsets/sunrises, or try to imagine and visualise them when relaxing. Sometimes I might take myself on an imaginary journey. For me it is high summer late afternoon, dappled sunlight coming through trees in the woods, and the atmosphere of it all. Anything but leaden grey skies, rain and perpetual twilight!
